Ms. Holt is an established Registered Psychotherapist with over two decades of experience in professional practice. Over the past 26 years, she has specialized in working with individuals (adults and youth, male, female, transgender, and non-binary) who may be involved with the legal system. They may have done something of a sexual nature that has gotten them into trouble, or have engaged in aggressive/violent behaviour towards their intimate partner. She has assisted families navigate the challenges of safety planning as they seek to reunify. Ms. Holt has spent time working with the “non-offending parent” (counselling for the spouse of the person who has been charged with a sexual based offence). She has been privileged to help these clients navigate the range of emotions that come as a result of their spouse’s behaviours; some chose to remain in their relationship, others chose to leave.

Many of the clients Ms. Holt works with are dealing with stressors and trauma (such as sexual abuse from the past, or present), mental health difficulties (such as depression or anxiety), they may be struggling with relationship issues or be struggling with anger management issues. Over the years, Ms. Holt has assisted many people in choosing to become responsible for the behaviours they have engaged in which have hurt both themselves and others. She has journeyed with them as they learned how to lead a “good life” - a life free from abuse. Further, Ms. Holt is experienced working with Indigenous populations and issues relevant to Indigenous persons.

In order to best assist her clients, she uses a variety of therapeutic modalities, including but not limited to: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR); person-centered therapy; and Motivational Interviewing Techniques. Ms. Holt is a Registered Psychotherapist through the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and is registered as a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). She is also a Clinical Member in good standing with the Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse (ATSA).

Personally, Ms. Holt enjoys spending time outside running with her dog– she has completed nine marathons over the years. She also find a great deal of peace in her gardens, and spending time camping, hiking, and travelling with her family.

Bente Skau is a Registered Social Worker and psychotherapist who supports individuals, couples, and families navigating relationship challenges, communication issues, childhood traumas, and the impacts of interpersonal harm. She works with people who have been hurt as well as those seeking support to change harmful patterns in their own behaviour. Bente has specialized expertise in the field of sexual abuse treatment including sibling sexual abuse. She has worked extensively with adolescents who have been sexually traumatized, supporting them in rebuilding a sense of safety, stability, and self-worth through trauma-informed, developmentally attuned care. Known for her warmth and curiosity, she offers a space where clients feel respected—while also being encouraged to confront problems directly and move toward meaningful change.

Her therapeutic approach includes Narrative, Existential, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). She believes that people are not their problems, and that many difficulties arise from structural issues, social narratives, and past experiences rather than personal flaws. Drawing on narrative and existential ideas, she helps clients deconstruct restrictive stories, explore identity and meaning, and reconnect with values and strengths. And when appropriate, CBT is used to build practical skills and create new, sustainable patterns of thinking and behaving.

With over 25 years of experience, Bente brings a grounded, relational approach to both her individual and couple work. She supports clients looking to strengthen relationships, navigate family dynamics, heal from past harm, or understand themselves more deeply. Her style is compassionate, honest, and gently challenging.

In addition to her clinical work, Bente teaches in the School of Social Work at York University, where her interests in Queer Theory, Masculinity Studies, and Intimate Partner Violence inform an inclusive and critically reflective practice.

At Guidepoint Clinic, I am doing a supervised placement as part of my additional training, which means all my work is supervised by a registered psychologist. Receipts for insurance will be issued under the name of my supervisor. I hold more than sixteen years of experience in the fields of addiction, trauma, and mental health. My background includes individual, couple, and group work with adults navigating substance use, compulsive sexual behaviour, gambling and technology related concerns, as well as mood and personality related difficulties. I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and am a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist Supervisor, which reflects my training in working with complex addictive patterns and their impact on partners and relationships.

Alongside my clinical work, I am engaged in further graduate training in psychology, which supports my interest in assessment, integrated treatment planning, and evidence informed care. Across roles and settings, a consistent thread has been helping people make sense of experiences that may feel stigmatized, frightening, or hard to talk about, while maintaining a firm focus on safety, accountability, and long term change.

I primarily work with adults (18+) and older adults in individual and couple therapy. I have extensive experience supporting LGBTQ2S+ clients and those navigating sexuality, gender, and identity related concerns. Much of my practice focuses on people dealing with addiction and compulsive behaviour, trauma and post traumatic stress, mood and anxiety difficulties, personality related concerns, and relationship or intimacy issues.

Many clients come to therapy feeling caught in cycles of worry, self-doubt, or disconnection — both within themselves and their relationships. They often feel like they “should” be coping better, and when they don’t, they judge themselves or feel frustrated by their own reactions. It can feel like no matter how hard they try; they can’t quiet the overthinking or break out of patterns that keep them stuck.

I provide a warm, collaborative space where individuals and couples can better understand their thoughts, emotions, and relational patterns. Rather than focusing on judgment, we approach what’s happening with curiosity — making sense of experiences, finding new understanding, and developing compassion for the self and each other. My approach integrates different therapeutic approaches that aim to help clients find new meaning, strengthen communication, and build practical tools to manage life’s challenges with greater ease.

I provide therapy using a range of trauma-informed and strength-based including, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing (CPT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness-based, Gottman Method, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Relational Therapy – all integrated through a compassionate, collaborative, and practical approach.

Through this process, my hope is for clients to experience greater balance, confidence, and connection — feeling more grounded in themselves and more secure in their relationships.
